HI Friends.
Does anyone remember the glory of the past when walking down a road would mean freedom; a time to spent with oneself exploring the mysterious and useless things happening with us; a time to relax and breathe in the cool air, filling our lungs with the odourless nectar; a time when going from your house to your neighbours didnt take more than a few minutes.
Well, now that you are done reminiscing the past, welcome to hell!!
How often have you driven a two wheeler to some destination and realised you are covered in dust and waste lying on the road; how often have you lost your temper on the road; how often have you blamed the civic organisation of your city for not providing the right infrastructure; how often have you beat the traffic lights in order to save those precious 3 minutes; how often have you risked your life and others with your extra precarious manoeuvers in order to save that extra time; how often have you really thought about what YOU CAN DO TO IMPROVE THE TRAFFIC YOU SO GRUMBLE UPON?
If you think that the the lack of civic amenities, nonsense driving by others, lack of discipline from others or rampant corruption (wonder how that came here!!) to be the cause of such disturbances that affect you so dramatically, i just have two words for you, 'GROW UP' .
It is you to be blamed for causing such caucous situations on road, that transforms a peaceful journey into a painful one. How? u mite ask....well have you ever thought of being as civilised on the road, as you were in your home or at your office. Why is it that we have to be taught to behave by others? If you had followed the same lane discipline that has been stipulated by the governing bodies, maybe you wouldnt be blaming them as much...if you had followed a courteous driving sense, maybe you wouldnt have had to blame your co drivers....maybe if you had stopped to enjoy the journey rather than blame its lackadaisical nature, you wouldnt have turned an enjoyable affair into one leading you to high BP.
Notwithstanding that, I do have a few suggestions that can quite alter the present traffic conditions. However, it involves a huge compromise from the society and one that has if not huger but equal benefits as well.
(1) CAR POOL system to travel: among the driving population today, the working people constitute a huge majority. Thus if 4-5 people can use a vehicle at one time to work it not only saves precious car space, fuel and time but also gives the huge respite of road space. However it requires a huge disciplined efforts from the public in order to ensure synchronisation of time for the people in the car pool and also a give an take among them.
(2) Companies should shoulder responsiblities and persuade the staff to come in company bus. I do acknowledge that this might cause problems due to erratic working hours and stop points of the bus, but with a discilpined and planned approach and periodic BUS departures the problem can be solved.
(3) the government should declare a day, preferably Sunday, as a no-vehicle day. On this day all the trasnportation will happen on environment friendly modes such as cycles and so on. Thus this not only promotes energy conversion (which is causing quite a few heart aches) but also improve the bulging waist line of many and more importantly provides us the opportunity to enjoy our environment in her full glory. needless to say, it saves a lot of money for people who spend lakhs on machines that dont work to maintain their figure.
(4) Lane discipline and a sense of give and take among drivers on road and sensible driving
(5) Government should be coerced to provide regular transport facilities to all points of the city and ensure different standards of facilites for people with different economic standards. For e.g, in bangalore city where i live, we have normal buses for people with moderate economic capabilites and the costiler but comfortable volvo buses for the high end customers.
(6) finally awareness among the citizens about the highlights of such methods and a helping hand from the public in following them are very important.
Maybe after that, i will finally be able to take in the road as it is meant to be.
over to you people.........

A good blog... dealing with the main problem metros are facing! The need of the hour is discipline and determination which is only how all the suggestions nischal has mentioned can be implemented. With improving living conditions and status of living, the possession of a vehicle, specially a 4 wheeler, is seen as a status symbol, hence making it more tough to change the mindset of people. People complain daily about traffic problems, curse other drivers, curse the roads, curse the government, but hardly think about the way they contribute to it as well! In such a situation ur 6th suggestion becomes most important. And in many cases persuading the people who are already aware to act quick too becomes important! Other suggestions include more strict driving tests, monitoring of driving for a period of say 3 months before issuing the drivers license, a rule to restrict the number of vehicles owned by a family. All the suggestions can become practical only when the public relises the importance of reducing traffic and the various problems such as increasing respiratory disorders and environmental problems that traffic is causing.
